Two new reads

I am posting two new, very quick reads to look at.  I am also going to comment on the handout from Grant Wiggins on what students say about their learning experiences.

Interesting article

I came across this article this morning and thought it was a good read. It goes along with what we have been talking about with parent involvement and the idea of PARENT UNIVERSITY.

READICIDE

Has anyone started to read the book? I am working through chapter one and am completely hooked on it, and certainly it's premise. This is going to be a very interesting read. Please comment.

Handbook

Hopefully everyone has had a chance to relax a bit this summer and enjoy the weather.
Joe included the whole staff in the process of making comments and editing the document. We hope that this will be the way we can do many things in the future. Joe did a very good job of modeling the relevant technology that we have been talking about recently. I plan to open our discussion on Readicide next week. If you have any comments about the book or anything in general, feel free to start making them here.
For me year one as Principal was great, and hopefully year two will be much better!

Setting up for Readicide

As the summer is now upon us, and we can take some time to read and comment together, I will start by making a few suggestions. As we start to read, I will try to put together a calendar of when we should read certain chapters by. If you have the book already, you know that it is relatively short, although powerful.

On another note, as Joe and I begin the process of reviewing our handbook, I will put it up on google documents for all of us to review and comment on. If you have a google account and know documents let me know. If you don't,sign up for one, it's free and easy to use. This way it becomes a true living document that can be edited and commented on by all that are connected.

Thank you again for your participation.

Parent university

Just wondering if anyone had any opportunity to read the article that I handed out at the book club meeting? If so any thoughts on how to startup a program for our parents?
